Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
QUESTIONS ANSWERS
What is the charge to utilize your facility?
FREE ! We offer meeting space at no cost to you through our support from the National Science Foundation.
What is your auditorium capacity?
One Hundred (100).
What is your classroom capacity?
Thirty Five (35).
How much notice must I give you?
Six to Ten weeks notice is typical.  The earlier the notice the more the likelihood of getting the date you want.
What about food?
Visitors must bring their own lunches and drinks or have their event catered.  We have an employee snack and soda machine but would like to limit the usage to smaller groups. We have a beautiful outdoor covered patio and during inclement weather can seat your group inside for lunch.
Are there any special restrictions?
LIGO Livingston Observatory is a working observatory operating continuously. Our interferometer is extremely sensitive to ground motion. While on the site, vehicles MUST remain below 10 mph while driving on the facility. Buses will not be allowed to idle for long periods. Bus drivers should be made aware that once the vehicles enter the facility they will not be permitted to depart until the field trip is concluded. Please bring food and beverages for your driver. Drivers are welcome to rest in our SEC atrium.
What are the dates/times that LIGO could host a teacher workshop?
Professional groups meeting space is available on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays during the school year. Other days may be available during the summer.
